New Delhi, 28th October 2006

Shri Naveen Patnaik, Hon'ble Chief Minister, Orissa, Chief Guest at TiECON 2006 delivered valedictory address at ITC hotel Maurya Sheraton, New Delhi on 28th October 2006. Orissa is a partner state in the TiECON 2006. TiECON 2006, during its 3 days of deliberations from 26th - 28th October 2006 brought together successful entrepreneurs from India and around the world. The theme of this year's conference was entrepreneurship: DNA growth. TiECON 2006 focused on critical factors having bearing on entrepreneurs and business opportunities in the Indian market.

During valedictory address Shri Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister, Orissa informed delegates that Orissa has become a preferred destination for foreign and domestic investors in view of significant improvement in the state's business climate. He stated that Orissa has already received investment proposals worth almost US$100 Billion and most of the major national and international players in all sectors ranging from steel, aluminum, power, infrastructure, hospitality, textiles and IT are evincing keen interest in expanding their investment profile in the state. Chief Minister, Orissa also highlighted the efforts made by Orissa to improve business climate such as single window clearance and facilitation system and the special role being played by Team Orissa for providing reliable infrastructure, improved connectivity and healthy business climate. He mentioned that the state plans to invest about Rs.25,000 crore over the next 5 years for improving road and railway infrastructure. Sharing with the delegates some significant initiatives of the state, the Chief Minister categorically stated that his Government intend to accord top priority to the development of world class social infrastructure. Chief Minister, Orissa made a special mention of significant growth in the health and educational infrastructure in the state during the recent years. He informed that the state is committed to improvement of qualified manpower, particularly for the service sector, and is accordingly setting up educational centers of excellence including International Institute of Information Technology, IIT Kharagpur Campus and National Institute of Science and Education Research.

Chief Minister, Orissa shared with delegates that Orissa will soon have the distinction of having the best private University of Vedanta with world class facilities as are available in Harvard, Stanford and Cambridge Universities in addition to Olympic standard sports facilities. An investment of about US$ 3 billion is planned for the purpose. Chief Minister, Orissa observed that Orissa in general and Bhubaneswar in particular is emerging as the most attractive destination for investors in IT, ITES and other high-tech industries. He mentioned that Orissa at present offers not only the desired business climate but also hospitality delight with mushrooming growth of hotels, shopping malls and restaurants at major tourist destinations.

Chief Minister, Orissa in his concluding remarks shared with the distinguished entrepreneurs that the state would be more than happy to assist them for any support that they may need and extended invitation to the delegates to visit Orissa to get first hand experience of the opportunities available in the state. He assured that the potential investors will now have ease of travel to Orissa in view of the improved air connectivity to the state.

Chief Minister, Orissa thanked Mr. Vijay Mallya for his announcement that Kingfisher Airlines plans to fly within a week between Delhi - Hyderabad - Bhubaneswar.
